Ongoing Digestive Disease Educational Activities

The Digestive Disease Institute is involved in education for health care professionals on a local, regional, national and international scale.

Host to a critically acclaimed Hepatology Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Gastroenterology Continuing Nursing Education course each spring, the Digestive Disease Institute also teaches hundreds of local and visiting physicians through Grand Rounds each year. Additionally, Digestive Disease Institute providers are engaged in ongoing education through Live Endoscopy Courses and weekly conferences including a Gastroenterology Journal Club, Gastrointestinal Pathology Conference, Gastrointestinal Radiology Conference, Gastrointestinal Cancer Conference and Liver Cancer Conference.

Nationally, members of the Digestive Disease Institute care team give an average of 100 presentations on digestive disease each year, including multiple presentations at Digestive Disease Week, the world's largest gathering of physicians and researchers in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery.

Internationally, executive director Richard Kozarek, MD, has been integral to the implementation of the World Gastroenterological Organisation's 14 training centers, aimed at training gastroenterologists worldwide and thus improving gastroenterological health around the globe. Additionally, director Scott Helton, MD, gives lectures and leads seminars for physicians annually in locations including India, Europe, South Africa, Philippines, Japan, China and Lebanon.
