People throughout the region turn to us for our expertise in spine care. Our nationally recognized program is home to leading spine specialists who deliver evidence-based back and neck pain treatments.

At our Spine Program, you’ll find:

Their depth of experience means they can treat even the most challenging back and neck conditions with advanced treatments.
  • Focus on quality: We are proud to be a Center of Excellence in spine surgery for some of the nation’s top employers. We also have Blue Distinction® Center for Spine Surgery status from Blue Cross Blue Shield. These designations mean we provide the highest levels of care, safety and patient experience.
  • Convenient, streamlined care: Our entire team collaborates on your care — from our physiatrists and surgeons to our physical therapists, orthopedic doctors and other specialists. We meet weekly to discuss the best treatment options for you.

Our spine treatments

We customize spine treatments to your needs. We may suggest combining multiple therapies to relieve pain and improve your daily functioning. Our spine doctors provide attentive follow-up care to monitor your symptoms and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

  • Most spine conditions don’t require surgery. You can often find highly effective relief with a combination of conservative therapies. We may recommend lifestyle changes, physical therapy and rehabilitation and non-drug treatments for back and neck pain, such as massage, acupuncture or yoga. These non-surgical treatments often reduce symptoms, restore mobility and improve quality of life without the need for an invasive procedure.

  • Our spine surgeons have a breadth of expertise that’s unmatched in the region. They specialize in the latest minimally invasive spine surgeries, including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures. When necessary, they also perform traditional open spine surgery for complex conditions.

What to expect at your first appointment

You’ll likely be scheduled with one of our physiatrists for an initial back and neck pain treatment evaluation.

Physiatrists specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, helping patients attain a higher level of function. As a part of the Spine Program, they focus on diagnosing musculoskeletal conditions that are contributing to your pain, such as spinal arthritis or joint conditions. They then work with you to create a treatment plan to increase your mobility and quality of life.

Here’s what you can expect on the day of your first appointment:

  • Exam and assessment: Your provider will do a thorough physical exam, review your medical history and discuss your symptoms. They may order diagnostic tests, if necessary, to find out what’s causing your back or neck pain.
  • Treatment options: We sometimes offer non-surgical interventions like physical therapy that day if your provider feels it’s appropriate. Or, we may recommend waiting until your testing is back to determine the best course of action.
  • Referrals, if necessary: If the physiatrist thinks surgery may be appropriate, they’ll refer you to one of our spine surgeons for further evaluation. We also may refer to other specialists to address any additional health concerns.

We want to do what’s best for you, given your specific problem. We’ll always involve you throughout the decision-making process.
