Shaping the future of VMFH, one student at a time

We connect middle and high school students with real health care workers through hands-on learning, mentorship, and access to career-building opportunities. Since launching in January 2025, the Diverse Workforce Pathways program has connected students with health care professionals across King, Pierce, and Kitsap counties, inspiring the next generation of caregivers!

Before the DWP guest speaker came, I didn’t really know what health care was about. During the presentation, I got to see X-rays, use some equipment and I became interested in becoming a radiology technologist. Now, I have a VMFH mentor guiding me through high school so I can put my best foot forward towards that goal and actually work in health care.

Before the STEAM Career Fair at Federal Way High, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in health care. Talking with the VMFH staff at their table and trying CPR hands-on made me realize this is something I really want to pursue!

I hope we can continue to work together and provide more opportunities like this for my students. The DWP program makes it simple to connect my students to real professionals and meaningful experiences. Thank you, Diverse Workforce Pathways!

    Parent testimonial

    Diverse workforce pathways program

My son, who is African American, was one of 250 students at Career Day, yet the VMFH speaker took the time to sit with him after their presentation to share their experience as an African American physician, and explain how he could start exploring health care in high school. My son is now part of the National Academy Foundation aspiring to become a surgeon like the presenter. Thank you for inspiring my son and showing him it’s possible.
