Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) leaders, clinicians, and staff share a commitment to greater unity and equity for all. This commitment is reflected in our mission at VMFH to improve the health of all the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.

VMFH also aligns with CommonSpirit Health’s blueprint to advance health equity in our communities to establish policies and programs that:

  • Expand access to care in underserved communities
  • Improve how we track outcomes by race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, and gender identity
  • Expand implicit and unconscious bias training for our team members
  • Grow our community health programs that address social determinants of health
  • Continue to diversify our leadership, workforce, and partners

VMFH is building a trusting environment that empowers our workforce, highlights the diversity of our people and honors the dignity of each person who walks through our doors.

What are VMFH hospitals doing to address diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the communities they serve?

We are working hard to ensure that all VMFH hospitals, medical centers, and clinics provide an inclusive environment for all patients, visitors, and caregivers. This includes training care teams across our health system on cultural competence, LGBTQ+ care, and understanding and addressing biases.
