Pelvic Floor Services

Our team of pelvic health specialists delivers nationally recognized care that enables you to go about your day with comfort and confidence. Our expertise is one of the many reasons patients throughout the Puget Sound region and beyond put their trust in Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.

Pelvic floor services at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health: Why choose us?

Our multidisciplinary team delivers the highest level of care. We are one of the few places in the region with fellowship-trained pelvic health specialists. Our team includes trusted urogynecologists (female pelvic medicine specialists), gynecologists, urologists, gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons. They work together to deliver the latest evidence-based care and perform reconstructive pelvic surgery. Few programs in the region can match the depth and breadth of our expertise. Meet our team.

We are among the highest volume pelvic floor programs in the Pacific Northwest. Patients and referring doctors turn to us because we successfully treat advanced disorders and those involving multiple organ systems. Our patients consistently achieve their goals and maintain long-term symptom relief.

National recognition for excellence and leadership in pelvic floor services

Virginia Mason Medical Center has achieved National Association for Continence Center of Excellence accreditation by the Surgical Review Corporation. We’ve maintained this distinction since 2010, which recognizes our commitment to clinical expertise and a culture of ongoing excellence. We are the only program in the Pacific Northwest with this designation. By delivering the highest-quality pelvic health care, our patients experience fewer complications and are more satisfied with their treatment.

Additional achievements include:

  • Renowned pelvic health research efforts: We lead a robust, nationally funded research program that’s advancing care and outcomes. Our experts share their findings through publications and speaking engagements.
  • Accredited fellowship program: Our team is training the next generation of pelvic health specialists through a urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery fellowship. Only programs like ours that successfully treat a high volume of complex cases can support such high-level training.
  • Ongoing medical education: Virginia Mason Franciscan Health hosts continuing medical education (CME) conferences where we discuss emerging best practices in surgical and nonsurgical pelvic floor services.

How to access pelvic floor services

You may need a referral from your primary care provider (PCP) to see one of our pelvic health specialists. Your PCP may perform an initial evaluation to learn more about your concerns and discuss how our team can help.

Our pelvic floor services

Experts at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health deliver the complete range of services for pelvic health concerns, including:

  • Assessments: Coming to an experienced program like ours helps you receive an accurate diagnosis. We offer the testing you may need, including advanced options that provide more information than standard tests. Read more about diagnostic testing for pelvic floor disorders
  • Medical treatments: Nonsurgical pelvic floor treatments include medications, lifestyle changes or injections. Some patients benefit from in-office procedures like urethral bulking that significantly reduce bladder leaks. Other options include medical or hormonal management and botulinum toxin injections.
  • Pelvic floor physical therapy: We use pelvic floor physical therapy to treat incontinence, mild prolapse, overactive bladder, constipation, pain and more. Pelvic floor physical therapy helps treat underlying conditions to improve symptoms and quality of life.
  • Minimally invasive procedures: Our surgeons successfully treat complex issues, including complications from previous procedures. In many cases, we perform robotic surgery through small incisions for care that’s gentler on your body. Get more information about surgery for pelvic floor disorders
  • Clinical trials: Our active role in research gives you access to new care methods years before they become widely available. We offer options that may be available only in select programs nationwide.
