Center of Occupational Health and Education (COHE)

Centers of Occupational Health and Education, or COHEs, are contracts between the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) and seven different sponsoring health care systems throughout Washington state.

Health care providers participating in a COHE receive free training on occupational health best practices and incentive pay for following evidence-based activities.  Health Services Coordinators (HSCs) work directly with the patients, employers, health care providers, L&I and others to improve return to work outcomes and reduce work disability for state funded workers’ compensation patients.

COHE Alliance of Western Washington

COHE Alliance has been sponsored by Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) since 2013.  COHE Alliance team members are employees of VMFH providing high-quality free occupational health support services to VMFH and over 80 other community health care systems throughout western Washington.

COHE Alliance is dedicated to disability prevention by addressing common occupational health and claim related barriers with early intervention.  Therefore, network enrollment partnerships are predominantly providers and healthcare teams that initiate L&I state funded claims and/or provide treatment on L&I claims in the first few months following the date of injury or onset of illness.
