Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services

Physical medicine and rehabilitation is a medical specialty dedicated to assisting patients with physical, psychological, cognitive or communication problems. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health offers both inpatient and outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation services, and our department takes pride in our internationally recognized research in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), neurological rehabilitation and pain management. 

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health offers a coordinated team approach to rehabilitation. We offer individualized treatment options, as well as several integrated programs, with a full range of services.

Musculoskeletal services

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health doctors and physical and occupational therapists evaluate and treat patients with a wide variety of musculoskeletal diagnoses, including neck and back pain, overuse disorders, joint injuries and headaches.

Lymphedema management

Specialized therapy is offered for cancer survivors, including lymphedema management to treat swelling in the arms.

Spasticity Management Clinic

Our Spasticity Management Clinic is a one-stop shop that provides comprehensive care and evaluation for patients with a variety of neurological disorders.

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is a nationally recognized provider of comprehensive services for neurological rehabilitation.

Pain psychology

Our pain psychology classes teach students a wide variety of evidence-based techniques for managing chronic pain.

For providers: Dynamic Risk Assessment Tool

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health's Dynamic Risk Assessment Tool was developed by a multidisciplinary care team and is available for providers to use when caring for their patients to help identify potential risks and needs.
