Vascular screenings

Vascular disease often doesn’t show symptoms until advanced stages. At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we can screen for vascular diseases before they become serious.

Talk to your provider to find out if vascular screening is right for you. Generally, we recommend screenings for anyone age 50 and older, or younger if you have diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a history of smoking, or a family history of stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm or heart or vascular disease.

Here’s what you can expect when you come in for a screening:

  1. We’ll perform the screening (or multiple screenings) in one of our advanced vascular labs.
  2. A vascular surgeon will examine the results.
  3. Your provider will review the results with you to determine if you need treatment or further testing.

Vascular screenings we offer:

  • Carotid artery disease screening to check for narrowing of the carotid artery
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening to check the abdominal aorta
  • Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)/peripheral artery disease (PAD) screening to check for narrowing or blockages in leg arteries

Minimally invasive procedures

With advanced technology, many heart and vascular problems can be treated with balloons, stents and other devices delivered inside the vessels via small catheters. Learn more about minimally invasive procedures for vascular disease.
